Q1.    What is the income tax rate?

According to Chinese tax regulation, the taxes levy point for foreigners is 4800 RMB per month.It¡¯s a usual practice that the university will handle the personal income tax on behalf of the teachers, e.g. teachers' income tax will be deducted from their salary before it was transferred to the teachers' bank accounts. IED will apply for eligible foreign teachers for exempt from taxation according to Tax Treaty.

Q2.    Are the apartments shared?

We will offer each family a furnished apartment with a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen (basic cooking utensils provided) and a bathroom. Other facilities include air conditioners in bedroom and living room, a computer, a television set, a refrigerator, a telephone set, a washing machine and other daily appliances.

Q3. Will the university pay for the visa entry into China?

Upon the teachers¡¯ arrival at the university, the university will be responsible for applying Expert Card, which serves a working permit at Guangxi University, changing visa into working one (if the teacher enter China with a visa other than working visa), arranging health examination for teachers in order to apply Residence Permit on behalf of the teachers. The university will pay for the incurred expenses during these procedures.

Q4. What is the workload of teaching? 

Eighteen to twenty periods per week (including day and night classes) are expected. One teaching period consists of 40 minutes of teaching. Design syllabus, writing, proctoring and marking exams are also expected for mid-term and final exams.

Q5. What will be the nature of the course that I will be required to teach (eg. oral conversation)? Will they all be adult classes?

According to the teachers¡¯ qualification, the college will arrange them to teach oral, reading, writing or literature. All the students are undergraduate or postgraduate students, age ranging from 18 to 25 on average.

Q6. How many students per class on average?

There are twenty-five to forty students per class on average. 

Q7. What is the salary scale?

The salary we provide can be anything from  4,500 up to RMB 8,000 Yuan depending on the teachers qualification. The minimum requirement for educational background is completion of bachelor level and holding the concerning degree. 
 

Q8. What is the duration of the academic year ? 

The duration of contract should be from August of the relevant year to the next July.

Q9. Do we get Internet access from our home?  If so, is it possible to get ADSL (Broadband)?

Yes, you will get Internet access from home either through telephone line or broadband. The university shall not bear the expense in this regard.

Q10. Who would we be teaching (we would prefer English majors), and what would we be teaching them?

The students are English majors or non-English majors of undergraduate or postgraduate level. The courses taught will be mostly writing, reading, oral English and literature. It is also possible that the teachers teach elective courses depending on their own qualification.

Q11.Are we expected to design our own course, or is there already books/materials and a curriculum in place?

The university will provide the materials.
