Founded in 1928, Guangxi University (GXU) is the longest-established and largest comprehensive university in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is a university under China’s “211 Project” for key university development, a “double first-class” university with world-class discipline construction, and a jointly-constructed university of the Ministry of Education and People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The main campus covers an area of 265.5 hectares (approximately 3,982.5 mu), with an additional Subtropical Agricultural Science New Base covering 1,133.3337 hectares (approximately 16,900 mu). The university comprises 25 schools, offering a full range of disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, administration, arts and the like. Guangxi University maintains a highly qualified, dynamic, and internationalized faculty, with 3,512 in-service staff. Currently, the university enrolls 23,813 full-time undergraduates, 14,310 full-time postgraduate students, and 1,096 international students, including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, China.

Adhering to the fundamental mission of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, the university closely centers on the new imperative of “meeting national needs, fulfilling Guangxi’s aspirations, and leveraging Guangxi University’s strengths”. It continues to uphold the“Three Strives”—teachers teaching strivingly, students learning diligently, and staff working strenuously. It has steadily to strengthen its four distinctive academic features: subtropical regions, ASEAN-related research, marine sciences, and frontier ethnic studies. It is dedicated to cultivating four distinguished academic strengths: long-span arch bridges, sugarcane breeding, coral reef research, and space exploration. With the internationalization strategy of “Deepening Cooperation with ASEAN and Opening to the World,” the university has yielded a series of influential original achievements, including whole life safety and green building materials for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, light industry and green paper-making, protection and utilization of subtropical characteristic resources alongside with sugarcane breeding, governance and unity in ethnic frontier regions, marine resource development and ecological conservation, as well as technology-economic cooperation and Chinese language exchange with ASEAN countries. Currently, Guangxi University has established collaboration with more than 270 universities and institutions across 48 countries and regions worldwide, among which, over 90 universities and academic institutions in ASEAN countries. With the “Study at GXU” initiative, the university has nurtured approximately 25,000 international students, making Guangxi University a preferred destination for ASEAN students pursuing higher education in China.
