As the new year dawns and a new chapter unfolds, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Administration of Guangxi University, we extend our sincerest greetings and best wishes to all faculty, staff, and students who have worked diligently; to alumni at home and abroad who care deeply about their alma mater; to our retired colleagues who have devoted their efforts to the university’s development; and to friends from all sectors of society who have long supported Guangxi University.
The year 2025 marked the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and was a pivotal year for advancing our“Double First-Class” initiative and the joint construction by the Ministry and the Autonomous Region, as we strove to write a new chapter of high-quality development. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for New Era, we thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and subsequent plenary sessions, kept firmly to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, focused on“national needs, Guangxi’s strengths, and GXU’s contributions,”upheld the principles of“practical work, innovation at the core, performance-based assessment, and public evaluation,” and led high-quality development with high-quality Party building. United and enterprising, all members of the GXU community overcame difficulties and forged ahead, achieving inspiring new results across the board.
Over the past year, we worked diligently to consolidate our foundations, forging a solid bedrock for development through practical action.
We placed political construction of the Party at the forefront, taking pragmatic measures to reinforce the political foundation of university governance. We consolidated and expanded the achievements of thematic education, earnestly promoted the implementation of the spirit of the Eight-Point Frugality Guidelines, and steadily advanced rectification in key areas, effectively strengthening comprehensive and strict self-governance. We rigorously implemented the president’s responsibility under the leadership of the Party Committee, continued to optimize the mechanisms for selection, development, management, and utilization of cadres, and revitalized the cadre team. By deepening the primary-level Party building mechanism, we addressed a number of pressing and difficult issues of concern to teachers and students.
Over the past year, we pursued learning and innovation and boldly pressed ahead, using innovation to drive connotative development.
We advanced reform to break bottlenecks and empowered progress through innovation. Personnel and talent system reforms deepened, emphasizing hallmark outcomes and stimulating innovative vitality. We achieved notable results in recruiting and cultivating national and high-level talents: five new members received major national talent titles, and one team was recognized among universities nationwide, making our faculty increasingly high-quality and well-structured. Pilots for reforming research evaluation and contribution distribution progressed in an orderly manner, sparking sustained innovation momentum.
We embraced AI and optimized our disciplinary layout. Through top-level design, we systematically built an “AI+” innovation ecosystem, established the School of Artificial Intelligence, and deployed distinctive interdisciplinary directions in AI+ Science, AI+ Engineering, AI+ Agriculture and Health, and AI+ Humanities and Social Sciences, promoting full-chain integration of AI with talent cultivation. We led the establishment of the Guangxi Advanced Institute under the Ministry of Education, proactively aligning with frontier fields such as integrated circuits and artificial intelligence and with Guangxi’s industrial needs. We continued to consolidate the world-class discipline of civil engineering, maintaining a global lead in long-span arch bridge technology. The overall strength of our disciplines leapt forward, with 12 disciplines entering the global top 1% by ESI; Engineering and Materials Science advanced into the global top 0.1% (top 1‰), marking a breakthrough for Guangxi universities at this level; our Nature Index ranking rose to 163rd among global universities, a historic best.
We promoted organized research and enhanced our service capabilities. We achieved new heights in national-level major projects, won approval for our first integrated project under the Regional Innovation Joint Fund, and secured four key annual projects under the National Social Science Fund, ranking 24th nationwide. Our research awards were significant, including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award and the Fourth Guangxi Collective Award for Innovation and Excellence. The CXPD series of CubeSats for cosmic X-ray polarization detection that we led were successfully launched, and our high-purity gallium preparation reached an internationally advanced level. We made major advances in the modern sugarcane cultivar genome and germplasm evolution. We deeply engaged in national strategic projects such as the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and the Pinglu Canal, and expanded our portfolio of signature local engineering projects, providing strong scientific and intellectual support for national and regional development.
Over the past year, we lived up to expectations and reaped abundant results, delivering a strong report card of high-quality development.
The quality of talent cultivation reached a new level. Our students won gold and silver in high-level competitions such as the “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, achieving historic breakthroughs; they also excelled in sports on stages such as the Gymnastics World Cup, the CMAS East and West Asia Fin-swimming Championships, and the China University Cheer-leading Championships, showcasing the all-round excellence of GXU students. We incorporated AI courses comprehensively into graduate training programs and actively enrolled professional degree postgraduates in“AI+”interdisciplinary fields, significantly enhancing the alignment of talent cultivation with contemporary development and regional needs.
Our educational resources and support conditions were further enhanced. The North Campus was approved for two key NDRC investment programs, launching a number of new building projects and optimizing campus spatial planning. Several major infrastructure projects were completed or accelerated, markedly improving teaching and research conditions. We initially established a data governance technical support system of “one repository, one schema, one platform,” and advanced our smart campus construction. We continued to implement “practical initiatives for the people,” upgrading dining, housing, and sports facilities, and steadily advancing faculty and staff transitional apartments and co-funded housing, further strengthening the sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security among teachers and students.
Our social reputation and influence reached new heights. Our reform and development achievements received extensive coverage from authoritative media such as Guangming Daily and People’s Daily, further raising our visibility and reputation. We remain firmly committed to taking root in Guangxi and serving the region, vigorously promoting the special program for “retaining graduates in Guangxi for employment,” with a 52.68% retention rate among the Class of 2025. We have provided a large number of high-quality talents for Guangxi, and GXU students are contributing their youth and strength across the land of Bagui.
Looking back on 2025, every step left solid footprints, and every frame was filled with hard work. Our achievements fundamentally stem from the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. They are inseparable from the strong support of the Ministry of Education, the Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region, and all sectors of society; they embody the wisdom, dedication, and endeavor of every member of GXU; and they are imbued with the deep affection of our alumni. We express our heartfelt thanks and highest respect to everyone who has contributed to and supported the development of Guangxi University.
Building on solidity and striving through innovation, we look to the future. The year 2026 ushers in the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan and is crucial for deepening comprehensive reform, accelerating connotative development, and scaling new heights. As a national “Double First-Class” university jointly built by the Ministry and the Autonomous Region, we shoulder a glorious mission and great responsibility amid the surging tides of our time, in which the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent has unprecedented strategic significance.
On this new journey, we will continue to hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, uphold our motto of“Being Diligent and Upright; Learning Deeply and Innovating Boldly”maintain our work style of pragmatism, and foster an innovative spirit. We will anchor the goal of building a distinctly Chinese “Double First-Class”university deeply rooted in Guangxi, focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, concentrate on breakthroughs in “Double First-Class” construction, deepen comprehensive education reform, strengthen organized research and social services, continuously improve governance effectiveness, and enhance people’s well-being. With firmer resolve, higher morale, and more pragmatic actions, we will strive to write a new chapter in Guangxi University’s high-quality development, contributing more to building a strong education nation, to the new era of a magnificent Guangxi, and to the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
At this very moment, as the chimes of the New Year still resonate, let us set forth with confidence and expectation on our 2026 journey.

We wish Guangxi University an even brighter future and continued success.
