Guangxi University Ranks 86th in the 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking, Marking Steady Progress for Five Consecutive Years

Recently, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a professional higher education evaluation institution, officially released the "2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking". Guangxi university ranks 86th in the main ranking (i.e., the ranking of comprehensive universities), climbing three places compared to 2025 and once again reaching a historic high. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Guangxi university has demonstrated strong development momentum, steadily rising in this ranking. Over the past five years, it has advanced 13 places, successfully achieving a significant leap from the threshold of the top 100 to firmly establishing itself within the top 90 universities nationwide. This reflects the strategic effectiveness of the university's long-term commitment to connotative development and continuous deepening of comprehensive educational reform, and highlights the university's sustained positive development trajectory and continuously enhanced comprehensive strength.

In recent years, Guangxi University has seized the major opportunities presented by the Double First-Class initiative and the ministry-provincial co-construction mechanism. Adhering to the institutional positioning of firmly taking root in the Guangxi region to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, and upholding the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the university has continuously deepened comprehensive educational reform, optimized the disciplinary structure, strengthened the development of leading teams and innovative talent, enhanced capabilities for technological innovation and social services, expanded and deepened international exchanges and cooperation oriented toward ASEAN, and comprehensively improved governance capacity and standards. As a result, all undertakings of the university have entered a new phase of vigorous development. Compared with the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the university has achieved a doubling in five key areas: high-level research output, number of advantageous disciplines, number of locally-serving projects, number of high-level talents, and research and educational funding. The university has also achieved five landmark accomplishments: a record high number of newly added Essential Science Indicators (ESI) disciplines, world-leading large-span arch bridge construction technology, the election of a homegrown scholar as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the inclusion of civil engineering in the Ministry of Education's second round of the Double First-Class discipline construction list, and the publication of a paper in Nature as the first corresponding unit. Significant progress has also been made in five other areas: ideological and political work and Party building, quality of innovative talent cultivation, international academic influence, overall faculty strength, and scientific research serving national and regional development. Moving forward, the university will closely follow the strategic deployment of building strength in education at both national and regional levels, focusing on what the nation needs, what Guangxi can offer, and what Guangxi University can contribute. It is reported that the "2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking" covers over 1,000 undergraduate-level higher education institutions in China . To ensure comparability and fairness, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy classifies universities into comprehensive universities, eight categories of specialized universities, and four categories of non-public universities, employing differentiated indicator systems for respective rankings.
