GXU Holds the Unveiling Ceremony of China-ASEAN Institute of Energy

On March 26th, Guangxi University held the unveiling and establishment ceremony of the China-ASEAN Institute of Energy. Li Guozhong, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi University Committee, announced the official establishment of the China-ASEAN Institute of Energy. Han Linhai, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangxi University Committee and President, presided over the ceremony. Hu Fan, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Power Grid Company, Zhao Chengguang, a Level II Inspector General of the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Jiang Yufeng, member of the Party Committee of the China Electricity Council, delivered speeches respectively on the ceremony.

Li Guozhong pointed out that in recent years, Guangxi University has continuously enhanced its distinctive features of the education system opening up to ASEAN countries, and implemented the international development strategy of “Stay Connected with ASEAN, Keep Open to World”. The unveiling and establishment of the China-ASEAN Institute of Energy is a measure for GXU to thoroughly implement the requirements of the President Xi Jinping's remarks on Guangxi's development, serve national strategies, and advance regional opening-up and cooperation. Through education-enterprise cooperation, regional interaction, and coordination among all parties, GXU will further deepen the cooperation between China and ASEAN in aspects such as talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and sharing of educational resources. Based in Guangxi, facing the ASEAN region, and serving the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, it will build a platform for innovative opening-up and cooperation in higher education in China towards the ASEAN region. It will cultivate more energy and electrical engineering professionals from ASEAN countries who are proficient in their majors, have cross-cultural abilities, and meet the needs of overseas business of Chinese State-owned enterprises, and who are friendly to China and understand China. This will support Chinese energy enterprises to go global with high quality.

Hu Fan noted that the establishment of the China-ASEAN Institute of Energy represents a strategic collaboration between Guangxi University and China Southern Power Grid (Guangxi) to strengthen mutual trust and deepen ties. This initiative is expected to attract international students who embrace Chinese culture, nurture globally competitive professionals, and enhance energy policy, market, and technological connectivity between China and ASEAN. It will also advance cross-border talent development in the power sector, accelerating the adoption of Chinese standards, technologies, and products across ASEAN.

Zhao Chengguang emphasized that the Autonomous Region’s Department of Education will further strengthen collaboration among governments, universities, industry associations, and enterprises. By creating new multi-stakeholder cooperation platforms and expanding open partnerships, it will deepen models like "university-enterprise-university," "government-industry-university," and "university-industry-enterprise." This will enhance the ASEAN-focused "industry-academia-research" ecosystem, driving China-ASEAN educational cooperation to new levels.

Jiang Yufeng stated that China-ASEAN energy cooperation holds tremendous market potential. The China Electricity Council will work closely with the China-ASEAN Institute of Energy to deepen collaboration in talent development, technical exchanges, and scientific research. By sharing China's successful experiences and technological achievements in the power sector, the partnership will help ASEAN nations enhance their power technology capabilities and management expertise.

The China-ASEAN Institute of Energy will leverage cutting-edge technologies like digitalization and AI to establish integrated online-offline exchange platforms. It will initiate joint research programs to facilitate regular and efficient collaboration, while continuously exploring deeper energy sector cooperation between China and ASEAN nations.
