Elsevier, a global information analytics company, has recently released its 2024 “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” list, featuring 6,388 scholars from 547 universities, enterprises, and research institutions. Eleven scholars from Guangxi University have been selected, marking an increase of three scholars compared to 2023. The selected scholars are: Han Linhai (Civil Engineering), Xiao Jianzhuang (Civil Engineering), Chen Zongping (Civil Engineering), Zhang Wei (Mechanics), Long Hualou (Public Administration), Chen Wuhua (Electrical Engineering), Lin Weiying (Chemistry), Shen Peikang (Materials Science and Engineering), Yu Kefufu (Biology), Zhu Bangzhu (Business Administration), and Xu Xiangrong (Marine Science).
The list is based on data from Scopus, the world-renowned citation and abstract database, which serves as the statistical source of Chinese scholars’ research output. Using a methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, the list deeply analyzes and identifies Chinese scholars at various stages of their academic careers across multiple dimensions, systematically showcasing their research performance. The list not only aims to systematically display the current distribution of talent in China’s research field, but also precisely presents the disciplinary strengths and academic impact of various institutions and universities, highlighting top-tier experts in key technological research and priority areas.
The basic data extraction for highly cited researchers employed an optimized and updated mapping of Elsevier’s subject classification system aligned with the Ministry of Education's first-level academic disciplines in China. This mapping now covers 111 disciplines, allowing for a clearer and more systematic presentation of Chinese scholars’ disciplinary affiliations and research performance. It also brings scholars with outstanding achievements in discipline areas with strong Chinese regional characteristics into the public spotlight.
