April 9, 2025, a delegation led by President Bui Xuan Hai of Haiphong University, Vietnam, visited Guangxi University (GXU). Xiao Jianzhuang, Vice President of GXU, attended a symposium to welcome the guests.

During the meeting, Xiao Jianzhuang extended a warm welcome to President Bui Xuan Hai and his delegation, providing an overview of GXU’s development. He emphasized that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. GXU has actively implemented the directives proposed by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s leadership during their visit to Vietnam earlier this year, which called for fostering a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. The university has engaged in extensive collaborations with Vietnamese institutions, including the recent signing of a cooperation agreement with Haiphong University, laying a solid foundation for deeper partnership. Xiao expressed GXU’s commitment to welcoming Vietnamese faculty and students for academic exchanges and highlighted plans to leverage GXU’s disciplinary strengths in joint initiatives such as faculty-student exchanges, cooperative education programs, and scientific research, ultimately contributing to ASEAN talent development.
Bui Xuan Hai spoke highly of GXU’s distinguished history and achievements. He praised the university’s distinct focus on ASEAN collaboration, vibrant academic atmosphere, and picturesque campus. He proposed exploring the establishment of a joint Science and Technology Cooperation and Exchange Center and advancing a mutual faculty-student exchange mechanism. Additionally, he expressed interest in sending Vietnamese students to pursue studies in GXU’s leading disciplines. By sharing educational resources, both institutions aim to enhance talent cultivation and strengthen academic and cultural ties.
The symposium featured in-depth discussions on joint student training programs, faculty exchanges, and collaborative research projects.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Large-scale Structural Testing and Research Platform at GXU’s College of Civil Engineering and Architecture to learn about the university’s progress in first-class discipline development. They also visited the Memorial Hall of the Former Yucai School Auditorium on GXU’s Campus, where they explored the history of the Central School Zone for Vietnamese Students established in Nanning from 1951 to 1958. The visit concluded with a group photo in front of the statue of Ho Chi Minh, commemorating the longstanding friendship between China and Vietnam.
