To advance the university's "Double First-Class" initiative and strengthen exchange and cooperation with American universities, Dr. Li Guozhong, Chairman of Guangxi University Council , led a delegation on an official visit to the United States from June 15 to 22, 2025. The delegation visited the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), Stanford University, and the University of Montana (UM), renewing educational cooperation with U.S. partner universities and further expanding the university's international collaboration network.
At UCLA, the delegation toured the Samueli School of Engineering, Anderson School of Management, School of Law, and materials engineering laboratories. Both sides held discussions on first-class discipline development in Civil Engineering, exploring cutting-edge research, talent cultivation models, and potential research collaboration. A preliminary agreement was reached to expand scholar and student exchanges in the field of Civil Engineering.

At CSUS, the delegation was warmly received by Professor Mark R. Wheeler, Senior Advisor to the President for International Affairs. Li Guozhong, on behalf of Guangxi University, renewed the cooperation agreement with CSUS. Both parties agreed to collaborate on faculty and student exchanges, Sino-U.S. joint education programs, and academic forums for young faculty. Following the signing, the universities will focus on practical cooperation in disciplines including Civil Engineering, Economics and Finance, Public Administration, and Business Administration.

At Stanford University, Li Guozhong held in-depth discussions with Professor Yi Cui, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and nano-materials scientist. The delegation also visited the Stanford Center on China's Economy and Institutions (SCCEI), learning about its collaborative projects with China and meeting with Chinese postdoctoral scholars conducting research in the U.S. Li Guozhong introduced Guangxi University's disciplinary strengths , latest development and overseas talent recruitment policies.

At the University of Montana, Vice Provost Shara Tscheulin met with the delegation and joined Li Guozhong in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Leveraging the Mansfield Center as a platform, the two universities will conduct diverse Sino-U.S. cultural exchange programs and youth activities, fostering mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and the U.S., particularly between the sister states of Guangxi and Montana. The delegation subsequently visited the Mansfield Center, Global Engagement Office, College of Humanities and Sciences, and Alexander Blewett III School of Law, reaching consensus on student exchanges, collaborative research, and joint training programs in key disciplines such as Economics, Engineering, Forestry, Law, and the MPA program.

During the U.S. visit, Li Guozhong also held a cordial meeting with alumni representatives from the Guangxi University Alumni Association chapters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. He shared updates on the university's progress and insights on its development vision, extending invitations for alumni to return for the upcoming centennial celebration. Alumni expressed their continued commitment to supporting their alma mater's growth and contributing to its development.

This visit represents a significant step by Guangxi University to deepen educational cooperation between China and the United States. The university will continue to strengthen partnerships with leading American institutions, further enhancing its international influence and the level of its collaborations, thereby driving the high-quality development of its "Double First-Class" initiative.
