On September 12, Jonathan Choi Koon Shum, a Standing Committee member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Vice President of the China Overseas Friendship Association, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, and Chairman of SunWah Group, led a 23-member delegation to Guangxi University. Li Guozhong, Secretary of the University Party Committee, presided over the symposium. Ning Xuchu, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, attended the event. Xiao Jianzhuang, Vice President, hosted a thematic lecture.

Li Guozhong extended a warm welcme to Jonathan Choi Koon Shum and his delegation, introducing Guangxi University's advancements in talent cultivation, scientific research, industry-academia collaboration, and contributions to regional socioeconomic development. He highlighted the university's recent efforts to implement President Xi Jinping’s important initiative of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, actively promoting in-depth exchanges and cooperation in education with ASEAN countries, continuously deepening the "ASEAN-focused" development strategy, and striving to build a distinctive "ASEAN" cooperation brand. He noted that SunWah Group holds advanced philosophy and has achieved fruitful outcomes in educational exchanges, providing valuable experience for deepening regional educational collaboration. The university highly values the cooperation opportunity with SunWah Group and hopes to establish a long-term mechanism focusing on joint talent training, scientific innovation in key fields, industry-academia synergy, and multicultural exchanges, working together to create a model of deep industry-academia-research collaboration oriented towards ASEAN and jointly promote substantive progress in China-ASEAN educational, technological, and cultural exchanges.


Jonathan Choi Koon Shum introduced the development of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, and SunWah Group, highlighting the Group's achievements in deepening its presence in the ASEAN market and expanding its global business. He stated that SunWah Group has long been committed to promoting cooperation with overseas universities, actively building bridges for educational exchanges to advance international education collaboration. ASEAN-related research and cooperation represent one of Guangxi University's distinctive educational features, and SunWah Group also highly values its collaboration with ASEAN. He expressed confidence that the resources and experience accumulated over decades would provide strong support for Guangxi University's cooperation with ASEAN institutions. This delegation visit not only reflects high recognition of the potential for collaboration between both parties but also aims to establish an ASEAN cooperation platform, leverage complementary advantages, and launch comprehensive and in-depth cooperation with Guangxi University in areas such as discipline development, joint talent training, industry-academia-research project alignment, and regional ASEAN exchanges.

Following the meeting, Xiao Jianzhuang and Cai Zhuosi, Executive Vice Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance and Southeast Asia Regional President of SunWah Group, signed the "Cooperation Agreement between SunWah Group and Guangxi University" on behalf of both parties. Jonathan Choi Koon Shum and Li Guozhong witnessed the signing ceremony and unveiled the plaque for the "Jonathan Choi ASEAN Cooperation Center" at Guangxi University.
Jonathan Choi Koon Shum then delivered a thematic lecture titled "Serving University Development, Deepening ASEAN Engagement, and Going Global". Over 200 students of Guangxi University attended the lecture. During the Q&A session, students actively posed questions, creating a lively atmosphere.
