Guangxi University Delegation Visits Cambodia for Educational Exchange

From May 17 to 19, Zhao Shuangliang, Vice President of Guangxi University, led a delegation to Cambodia for educational exchange.

On May 18, the delegation visited Kratie University to further deepen bilateral cooperation. Ngy Laymithuna, Rector of Kratie University, reviewed the friendly relations between the two universities since the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2016 and expressed gratitude for Guangxi University's support over the years. The two sides held discussions on the draft MOU, confirming that future postgraduate training will focus on two major fieldsagriculture and food engineeringand reached agreements on study duration and joint curriculum development. They also reached preliminary consensus on jointly applying for a Belt and Road Joint Laboratory.

On May 19, the delegation visited the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), the highest institution of higher learning in Cambodia. During the talks, Vice President Zhao Shuangliang proposed a cooperation framework. Building on the discussion of a "2+2" dual-degree undergraduate program, he formally invited RUPP to join the Asian Infrastructure Engineering Cooperation Organization and highlighted the "Sustainable Development University Alliance" initiated by Guangxi University. Representatives of RUPP expressed an open attitude toward participating in the dual-degree program and indicated that they would positively consider joining the relevant international cooperation organizations.

During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia. Som Ratana, Under Secretary of State for Higher Education, and Mak Ngoy, Director General of Higher Education, met with the delegation. Som Ratana outlined the development trends of Cambodian higher education, noting that the current government is implementing the "Pentagon Strategy," shifting its focus from basic livelihood infrastructure to high-level talent cultivation and scientific research, with special emphasis on STEAM education and the training of science and engineering professionals. He expressed hope for in-depth cooperation with Guangxi University in talent cultivation, scientific research, and capacity building for education administrators. Mak Ngoy spoke highly of Guangxi University's comprehensive strength in science and engineering disciplines. He suggested that Guangxi University actively coordinate with RUPP to launch a "2+2" joint undergraduate program. Regarding Cambodia's "Fish and Rice Corridor" project, he hoped for strengthened technical collaboration in agriculture and green farming, as well as the introduction of Chinese technical support to help establish a food testing system that meets Chinese export standards. Vice President Zhao Shuangliang agreed with these proposals and instructed the heads of relevant schools accompanying the delegation to prepare for technical coordination.

The delegation also paid a visit to Chen Cong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, to report on the purpose of the visit and the outcomes of exchanges with Cambodian universities. Chen Cong fully affirmed Guangxi University's proactive efforts to serve the national foreign policy agenda and promote practical educational cooperation with Cambodia, pledging the Embassy's continued support for exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Cambodian universities.

Zhao Shuangliang and the delegation also visited the Guangxi Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, engaging in in-depth exchanges with representatives of Guangxi businessmen in Cambodia on the coordinated development of "education going global" and "industry going global," discussing pathways to leverage the university's disciplinary advantages to support Chinese enterprises in Cambodia. The delegation also met with GXU alumni representatives in Cambodia, encouraging them to continue serving as a bridge and bond to contribute to China-Cambodian friendship and the university's international development.
